The beauty of Venice and its charming people

Living near Venice in a city called Treviso for two years gave me a chance to get to know Venice quite well. It holds a special place in my heart, not only because Italy is the birthplace of my ancestors, but because it's one of the most magical and magnificent places in this world. The country is so rich in culture, colors, history, people, and delicious food all around.

During my visit to Italy in 2018, I had a photo shoot in San Mark’s Square in Venice when a well-dressed Venetian man walked by exuding confidence and charm. I asked him for a photo, and he said yes, quickly getting into position. He put his cigar in his mouth and his cane under his arm, then looked at me. I was nervous and hoping my camera settings weren't overexposed or wrong because I knew I had only a few seconds. Thankfully, it was fine, and I took two photos before thanking him and watching him walk away.

The next day, I saw him again, looking super elegant like before, probably going to get his breakfast somewhere while enjoying the views of his magnificent hometown. Venice is one of those places you'll never tire of the view. I thought he looked absolutely amazing, and I was really nervous in case he said no. But you never know until you ask. This photo is something I really love because it shows this gentleman's class, confidence, and beauty in the most natural way. It makes me wonder what my grandparents looked like when they lived in Italy. Quite nostalgic in a way.

This is why I believe people need to exist in photos. I wish I could track him down again and gift this to him or his loved ones. If you happen to know him or have seen him in Venice, please get in touch. He's surely a local and lives very close to the Basilica. I saw him on St Mark’s Square back in May 2018 going towards the Grand canal. It's a long shot, but I'd love to get in touch.

If you haven't been to Venice, I highly recommend visiting whenever you get the opportunity. It's a truly magnificent city.
